This is my university honours project, which is a research-driven infographic exploring the decline of the UK nightlife industry, which focuses on main areas which are; social, shift in trends, advertisment, health, legislation, and finance to help draw a precise conclusion. Designed using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro, the piece combines data visualisation with visual storytelling to communicate complex information in a clear, engaging format.

This project provided valuable experience in managing a demanding workload, from in-depth research and content development to the design and production of the final infographic. It required careful planning and time management to meet deadlines while maintaining high quality across all stages.

This project highlights my expertise in animation and character design, emphasising storytelling through movement and visual effects. It features two dynamic characters engaged in battle, each utilising their unique abilities to create a compelling visual narrative.

The character designs were initially developed in Adobe Illustrator, ensuring clean, scalable visuals that allowed for seamless adjustments. These assets were then imported into After Effects, where I applied advanced animation techniques, including keyframing, visual effects, and motion design, to bring the characters to life with fluid and engaging movement.

Throughout this project, I deepened my understanding of how to convey emotions through body language, timing, and movement while simultaneously enhancing my technical expertise in animation software. This process required careful attention to detail, ensuring that every action felt intentional and expressive.

Beyond the technical aspects, this project challenged me to think critically about character interactions and their impact on storytelling. I explored how subtle gestures, pacing, and sound design work together to create a more immersive experience.

VISUAL EFFECTS

This project marked my first experience with rotoscoping, where I was tasked with creating a short video that seamlessly incorporated ‘invisible’ visual effects. By carefully refining each frame, I successfully produced the illusion of pupils changing colour smoothly and naturally. The process was meticulous and required a high level of precision, as minor inconsistencies could disrupt the realism of the effect. Despite the time-intensive nature of this work, the final outcome was very rewarding, demonstrating the power of subtle visual changes in post-production.

Beyond refining my video editing skills, this project also provided an opportunity to expand my expertise in DSLR cinematography. I precisely adjusted key settings, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, to capture high-quality footage optimised for post-production. To further enhance realism, I applied subtle colour grading, adjusted the opacity of the coloured masks, and utilised advanced software tools such as the feather effect to ensure smooth blending. Through this experience, I strengthened both my technical proficiency and my ability to craft visually compelling narratives with precision and attention to detail.

Internship - I am currently undertaking an internship with EPCC, a leading supercomputing company based in Edinburgh. In my role as a Multimedia Designer, I have been involved in a wide range of projects, including redesigning signage, producing promotional materials, and developing animated induction videos for visitors and contractors to the secure site. This experience has provided me with valuable exposure to a professional working environment, enabling me to expand my skills beyond the university setting while building new connections within the industry.

Below is an example of some of the work I have completed to date. These are four promotional flyers designed for the company to showcase and help sell its services at conferences.

AH Beauty Therapy - This fictional brand was created to showcase my logo development skills and their application in real-world contexts, as demonstrated by the promotional poster on the upper right. The logo features muted colour tones to reflect the natural, understated qualities often associated with makeup. This colour palette is consistently carried through in the poster design to maintain visual harmony and brand coherence. This GIF demonstrates my proficiency with After Effects and could serve as marketing content on social media to introduce or conclude videos.

Dominic Douglas – A friend who owns a garage approached me for a business card design, starting with no clear vision for the final look. I took creative direction and developed a black and gold swirl design inspired by the iconic Toyota x Castrol rally car livery. I also designed a sleek, custom logo that cleverly interlinks the initials, making use of the repeated starting letter for a strong, memorable brand identity.
